Most online strength and conditioning degrees are master's programs. Of the 54 on this list, 39 are master's degrees, and 40 say they prepare you for the CSCS, the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Only 5 have verified CASCE accreditation, the standard the NSCA will require of U.S. bachelor's degrees starting January 1, 2030. Master's tuition runs from $393 to $1,180 a credit.
So read the accreditation and internship lines before the price line. A program can be cheap and still leave you without a place to do your hands-on hours, and a program can say CSCS and still not be one the NSCA accredits. Below you'll find what qualifies, what each level costs, and what the internships ask of you.

How We Chose These Programs
A program is on this list when its own school pages show one of three things: strength and conditioning as the degree, strength and conditioning as a named concentration or emphasis, or a stated link to the CSCS or to CASCE accreditation.
Every program is published as online, and we note its internship and campus requirements. Programs are ordered inside each degree level by the six-factor score in our methodology: cost, outcomes, online flexibility, credential alignment, program depth and track record. CASCE status counts under credential alignment, only when the NSCA list confirms it.
- Strength and conditioning as the degree, a concentration, or a stated CSCS or CASCE link
- Internship and field-experience requirements noted for each program
- Ranked within each degree level on the shared methodology
Scores are the weighted sum of six factors (Cost 25%, Outcomes 20%, Online Flexibility 20%, Credential Alignment 15%, Program Depth 10%, Track Record 10%), version 1.0. The methodology page shows the rubric for each factor.

How the CSCS Rule and CASCE Accreditation Shape Your Choice
The CSCS is the NSCA's main strength coach credential. Today you need at least a bachelor's degree, or enrollment as a college senior, plus current CPR/AED certification. The NSCA says its current degree requirement stays in place until December 31, 2029.
From January 1, 2030, the NSCA's CSCS page says U.S. candidates must hold a bachelor's degree from a CASCE-accredited program. CASCE stands for Collegiate Accreditation for Strength and Conditioning Education. Candidates whose bachelor's degree comes from outside the U.S. aren't affected until January 2036.
Notice what the rule names. It names a bachelor's degree, not a master's. If you already hold a bachelor's in any field, you can sit for the exam under the current rule, and a master's from this list builds skills and a résumé rather than exam eligibility. If you're counting on a master's to change your eligibility after 2030, ask the NSCA in writing first.
If you're starting from a blank page, a CASCE-accredited bachelor's is the safer choice. On this list that means Parker University's bachelor's or the University of Missouri's sport science degree with a strength and conditioning emphasis. Missouri's general sport science track does not carry CASCE accreditation, so choose the emphasis.
Three master's programs also appear on the NSCA's CASCE list: Parker's, the University of Mary's and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi's. The Texas school describes its strength and conditioning emphasis as delivered fully online and asynchronously.
You'll also see schools cite the NSCA Education Recognition Program, and 13 programs here do. The NSCA no longer publishes a list under that name, and the 2030 rule is tied to CASCE. Check CASCE first.
A few programs also list ACSM-EP or ACSM-CEP preparation. Those are the American College of Sports Medicine's exercise physiologist credentials, and from August 15, 2027 candidates must graduate from a program accredited by CAAHEP, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. No program on this list has verified CAAHEP status, so treat those credentials as a side path here. Our certification-ready ranking covers both rules.
Picking a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate in Strength and Conditioning
The list has 39 master's programs, 12 bachelor's, 2 doctorates and 1 associate. The master's level is where you'll have the most choices, and it's where prices spread the widest. The median online master's across our whole site costs $610 a credit, so use that as your yardstick.
The lowest master's rate is Southern Utah University's Sports Conditioning and Performance degree at $393 a credit, or $12,969 for 33 credits. The catch is a mandatory two-week summer session on campus in Cedar City. Wayne State College charges $427.45 a credit with fees included, but its degree is organizational management with a human performance focus, so it's less of a pure strength program.
For a fully online, asynchronous option with no campus visits, look at Concordia University-Saint Paul. It charges $475 a credit, $15,675 total, in 8-week courses with a cohort. Franklin University's strength and conditioning master's is $690 a credit, $22,080 for 32 credits, and requires an internship.
At the top end, Merrimack College charges $1,180 a credit. Its fellowships cover from 33 percent to all of tuition, and the Presidential fellowship covers 100%, so ask what's still open before you rule it out.
Bachelor's options are fewer. Lionel University charges $333 per quarter credit, $59,940 for 180 quarter credits, and accepts up to 120 transfer credits. The Citadel's degree completion program charges $520 a credit and asks for at least 30 college credits to start.
Missouri's illustrative estimate for a transfer student with 60 credits is $42,450, against $84,900 for a freshman. Parker's 120 credits come to about $93,240 before transfer credit and fees.
The two doctorates are Concordia University-Saint Paul's EdD and PhD in Kinesiology, each with a strength and conditioning emphasis, at $690 a credit and $42,090 or $46,230 in total. Neither requires the GRE. Among the master's programs, 18 of 39 do not require it or waive it under stated conditions, and our no-GRE ranking lists them.
What Internships and Campus Weekends Look Like in Online Programs
Strength and conditioning is a hands-on trade, so the online part is only half of these degrees. 39 of the 54 programs list an internship, practicum or field experience, and 13 need some time on campus. Ask about both before you apply, because they decide whether you can keep your current job.
The heaviest requirement is Logan University's two field experiences, 150 hours each, 300 in total, at a site you choose under a CSCS-credentialed coach. Parker's optional strength and conditioning track adds a 300-hour, full-time, in-person internship in your final semester. The school's program director helps you find a site anywhere in the country. Full time means you can't work another job that term.
Others ask for less. Canisius University offers a 120-hour internship at a site you arrange, and it need not be in Western New York. East Tennessee State University requires 240 supervised hours at any site you choose.
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls includes a 6-credit internship with a curated network of NCAA and private training sites, and it says it will pay for your CSCS exam. Missouri's bachelor's includes a required strength and conditioning internship of 3 to 6 credits.
Campus time is smaller but real. Southern Utah's summer session was posted for June 1 to 11, 2027. Wisconsin-River Falls holds three in-person weekends, and Saint Xavier University has a two-day session in the Human Performance Lab in your last semester. Lindenwood University asks for at least one weekend on campus each semester for two hybrid courses.
Price the travel and the time off, not just the tuition. A program with no campus visits and no placement can be cheaper on paper and harder to finish if you can't find a supervisor. And if an internship site is the reason you're enrolling, ask how many students the program placed last year and where.
What Strength and Conditioning Jobs Pay and Where a Degree Helps
The BLS doesn't publish strength and conditioning coach as its own occupation, so two rows come closest. In BLS OEWS data for May 2025, coaches and scouts had 248,950 jobs and a median wage of $47,320. The middle 80 percent earned between $28,790 and $98,860. Exercise trainers and group fitness instructors had 322,930 jobs and a median of $47,160, with a range of $28,800 to $83,100.
The gap between the bottom and top of those ranges is where your choices matter. A degree doesn't set your wage, and no program can promise you a job.
Building a résumé with a degree, a credential such as the CSCS and supervised coaching hours is how you compete for the better-paid roles, and it's what the internship requirements above are for. Our strength and conditioning coach career guide and salary page go deeper.
If you're aiming at tactical work with military, police or fire personnel, look at the details. Four programs list TSAC-F preparation, the NSCA's tactical facilitator credential: Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Calvin University, Maryville University and the University of Missouri's general sport science bachelor's.
The Citadel's degree completion program includes a tactical strength and conditioning course, and the University of Florida offers a specialization in human performance in tactical, flight and space operations.
If you want to coach a team, the coaches ranking covers programs built for that route. Read the job posts for the roles you want before you pick a program, since employers set their own requirements, and see our military ranking if you serve.
