A bachelor's program qualifies here when its own pages show a stated transfer limit of 60 credits or more, a degree-completion design, or a pitch to transfer students, and when it is delivered online.

Some programs state no maximum and qualify because the school describes a transfer pathway, so read the evidence on each program's card. Programs are ordered by the six-factor score in our methodology, which weighs cost, outcomes, online flexibility, credential alignment, program depth and track record. A bigger transfer limit does not raise a score by itself.

How Transfer Limits and Residency Rules Set Your Finish Line

Start with the number of credits a school will take, then read what it wants you to earn on its own campus. The limits on this list are 60 credits at Mississippi State University and Bryan University, and 90 at ten programs, including American Public University System, Franklin University and East Central University.

Quarter-credit schools look bigger than they are. Lionel University takes up to 120 of 180 credits, which is two thirds of the degree. Eastern Oregon University takes up to 135 of 180, or three quarters. CSU Monterey Bay's admissions page counts 60 semester credits as 90 quarter units, so you can convert either way.

Residency rules decide how many transferred credits you can really use. CSU Monterey Bay requires at least 30 credits completed there. Oregon State University requires 45 of your last 75 credits at Oregon State.

Mississippi State requires at least 30 hours from Mississippi State, and 60 of the 120 hours must come from a four-year university. Eastern Oregon requires a minimum of 20 of its own credits, and Montreat College requires two terms and 32 credits.

What you already hold matters as much as the cap. Mississippi State's degree is only for Associate of Applied Science graduates, and Bryan's completion track builds on its own associate degree. Tarleton State University asks for an applied associate degree. If your associate is an A.A. or A.S., look at programs with open transfer rules instead.

Entry thresholds vary. The Citadel requires 30 credits from regionally accredited colleges and considers grades of C or higher. The University of Missouri wants 24 or more applicable credits and a 2.0 GPA in your most recent term.

East Central asks for 24 credits with a 2.0. CSU Monterey Bay asks for 60 transferable semester credits, including 30 in general education with a C or better, plus anatomy and physiology with labs.

Send transcripts for an evaluation before you apply, and ask which grades and course ages the school will accept.

What the Last Two Years Cost With Transfer Credit

Price the credits you still need, not the full 120. The 31 programs here that publish a per-credit rate run from $220 to $845.68, and the median is $445. Seventeen of the 34 programs are at public universities, and the cheapest and the most expensive rates come from a private school and a public one.

Franklin University shows the effect clearly. At $398 a credit, its own calculator gives $11,940 if you transfer the 90-credit maximum and $21,094 at the average of 67 transferred credits, with about 20 months to finish at full-time pace. That $9,154 gap is 23 more credits at Franklin's price.

Flat-price completion tracks are easier to plan around. CSU Monterey Bay charges $550 a unit for every student, and first-bachelor's students take 50 units over two years for $27,500. Application, enrollment and student services fees add to that. CSU Monterey Bay also states that students in the program are considered part-time, so ask its financial aid office how that affects you.

Public flagships can still cost more. The University of Missouri's own estimate is $84,900 for a freshman and $42,450 for a typical transfer student with 60 credits on the strength and conditioning emphasis. Its general sport science track shows $40,327.50 for 57 credits. Missouri charges $707.50 a credit part time, so how many credits you take a term changes the total.

Check what the rate leaves out. University of the Cumberlands' $220 includes books and fees, which is why a 120-credit degree there comes to $26,400 before transfer credit. Maryville University adds a $475 technology fee each semester, and the Citadel adds $75 technology and $75 infrastructure fees each term.

Bryan's completion program lists about $13,550 in tuition, but that assumes 60 credits block-transferred from Bryan's own certificate and associate degree, which come to about $32,325 more. Ask every school for a total that includes fees and the credits you are bringing.

Earning Credit for CLEP Exams, Work and Military Training

Transfer credit covers classes you took. Prior-learning credit covers what you know from work, exams or military service, and ten programs on this list say they offer it.

Parker University accepts up to 45 semester hours of alternative credit, including CLEP, AP, IB, DANTES and ACE-recommended military training. Tarleton State's catalog shows a credit-for-prior-learning component of 12 to 45 hours. Texas Tech University accepts up to 9 credits of prior learning assessment. Eastern Oregon lists Assessment of Prior Experiential Learning and Agency Sponsored Learning. Montreat requires ACE verification for CLEP, DSST and non-collegiate military training.

CLEP is the cheapest of these routes. The College Board says CLEP offers 34 exams, that a passing score on one could earn three or more credits at over 3,000 colleges, and that exams cost $97 plus your test center's fee. Active-duty service members can have exam fees paid. The board also warns that some colleges won't grant CLEP credit if you already attempted a closely aligned college course.

So take general education exams first, such as college algebra or introductory psychology, and check the school's own CLEP policy before you register. Prior-learning credit usually fills general education or elective slots, not the upper-level exercise science courses, and it often counts against the same residency rules described above.

Checking Accreditation Before You Finish the Degree

A completion program moves you toward a diploma fast, and that makes the accreditation question urgent. Two certification rules now depend on your degree.

ACSM says that effective Aug. 15, 2027, candidates for its Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-EP) and Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-CEP) credentials must graduate from an exercise science or exercise physiology program accredited by CAAHEP, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. A program that has started the process through a formal inquiry or a Request for Accreditation Services also qualifies.

NSCA says that effective Jan. 1, 2030, U.S. candidates for the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam must hold a bachelor's degree from a CASCE-accredited program. CASCE is the Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education. The current degree requirement stays in place until Dec. 31, 2029.

A two-year completion track that starts this fall ends after the ACSM date, so the CAAHEP question applies to you now. On this list, Northeastern State University appears on the CAAHEP list. Parker University and the strength and conditioning emphasis at the University of Missouri appear on the CASCE list.

Four programs cite NSCA's older Education Recognition Program, which is not CASCE accreditation: Lionel, the Citadel, Maryville and Missouri's general sport science track. Bryan says its degree qualifies you to sit for the CSCS under today's rules.
