Eastern Oregon University Online Bachelor of Science/Arts in Health & Human Performance, Exercise Science Concentration

Eastern Oregon's online bachelor's is a practical finisher for anyone with college credits. It takes up to 135 transfer credits, prices every credit at $338 and lets you pick a B.A. or a B.S. But it's a broad Health & Human Performance degree with an exercise science concentration, not a CAAHEP-accredited exercise physiology degree. Choose it for training, coaching or health careers, and confirm the certification path first.

Eastern Oregon University is a public school in La Grande, Oregon, and it delivers this degree online with the help of Risepoint. EOU says it keeps control of the curriculum, teaching, admissions, tuition and accreditation. You apply to one Bachelor of Science/Arts in Health & Human Performance and choose exercise science as your concentration at application. The other two choices are community health and physical education.

The degree is 180 quarter credits, which is about 120 semester credits, and EOU lists four years. EOU says every faculty member is tenure-track. OnlineU ranked the degree #2 for most popular online exercise science degree in 2025, which measures popularity, not quality. Admission asks for a 2.25 college GPA if you transfer more than 30 quarter credits.

EOU says there are no on-campus requirements and that online students get the same professors and content as on-campus students. Its program pages also say that if your program requires an internship, capstone or field hours, EOU will help you find local options, and that faculty tap community partnerships for placements.

The lab courses, including Applied Anatomy, Biomechanics, Physiology of Exercise I and Motor Learning and Control, are listed as online with labs. The anatomy labs describe a cat as the anatomical model, so ask how those sessions run at home.

Who It Fits

• Transfer students and associate-degree holders. EOU accepts up to 135 credits from earlier college work, and it requires at least 20 EOU credits. Applicants with an AAOT or ASOT associate degree need only a 2.0 college GPA. With the maximum transfer, you'd still owe tuition on 45 credits.
• Military-connected students. Agency Sponsored Learning can turn military, union and association training into up to 45 credits. The Active Duty Scholarship covers remaining tuition for online undergraduates who served on active duty in the National Guard or Reserves since Sept. 11, 2001.
• Working adults with real fitness experience. EOU's Assessment of Prior Experiential Learning lets you document what you know for course credit, which can trim tuition if you've coached or trained clients for years.

Who Should Skip It

• Anyone who needs a CAAHEP-accredited degree for the ACSM exercise physiologist exam after August 15, 2027. EOU isn't on the CAAHEP list we pulled on September 29, 2026. See the certification-ready online exercise science degrees instead.
• Students aiming at physical therapy school on this degree alone. EOU's page lists physical therapist and occupational therapist as other titles, but those need graduate degrees. The required courses on the curriculum page include anatomy and physiology with labs but no chemistry or physics.
• Anyone who wants a start date every month. EOU runs on quarters, and the admissions page shows application deadlines of December 21 for Winter 2027 and March 22 for Spring 2027.

The core includes BIOL 231, 232 and 233 Human Anatomy & Physiology I to III with labs, HHP 131 Professional Careers & Foundations in HHP, HHP 312 Measurement & Evaluation in Physical Activity & Health, HHP 350 Behavior Change Theory and the one-credit HHP 495 Capstone Seminar. To register for the seminar you need 120 credits done and your instructor's consent.

The exercise science concentration adds CH 325 Nutrition and Sport Performance, EXS 311 Sport Psychology, EXS 321 Applied Anatomy, EXS 322 Biomechanics, EXS 323 Physiology of Exercise I, EXS 452 Physical Activity in Disease Prevention, EXS 453 Motor Learning and Control and EXS 455 Applied Exercise Programming, the capstone. EXS 452 covers heart disease, diabetes, stroke, arthritis and osteoporosis. Statistics is required too.

Here's how exercise-science-heavy it is. The concentration and the anatomy sequence add up to 41 of 180 credits, and the rest is general education and electives the page doesn't list. There's one exercise physiology course, and none titled exercise testing.

EOU charges $338 per credit, and the tuition page estimates $60,840 for all 180 credits, not counting fees. Fully online students pay a one-time $250 matriculation fee, and the application fee is $90. Those are quarter credits. Priced per semester credit, $338 works out to $507, so compare it against semester-based schools on that number.

Full-time is 12 credits a term, which is $4,056 in tuition. If you transfer the maximum 135 credits, the remaining 45 credits cost $15,210. EOU says about 92 percent of its online students benefit from financial aid and scholarships. Every online student pays the same rate.

EOU is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, a regional accreditor. No program on the exercise science pages carries CAAHEP or CASCE accreditation. The page says you'll gain the academic credential to become eligible for certifications in strength and conditioning, personal training and inclusive fitness training, but it doesn't name a certifying body.

Personal trainer certifications don't require a degree, and the CSCS currently asks for a bachelor's degree plus CPR and AED certification. From January 1, 2030, U.S. CSCS candidates need a bachelor's from a CASCE-accredited program, and EOU isn't on the CASCE list we pulled. The ACSM-EP rule for CAAHEP graduates begins August 15, 2027.

• The admissions page requires PES 131 with a C- or better, but the course list shows HHP 131 Professional Careers & Foundations in HHP, a two-credit course. Which one you need should be settled before you apply.
• The program page promises hands-on internship and capstone opportunities, yet the required courses list capstone courses and no internship course. EOU words the field requirement as "if your program requires" one, so it isn't clear whether this concentration has one.
• There's no exercise testing and prescription course by name, and only one required physiology of exercise course. That's thin for ACSM-style clinical content.
• EOU's federal graduation rate is 43 percent. That figure covers the whole university, not this degree.

• Is the prerequisite PES 131 or HHP 131, and can my transfer credit satisfy it?
• Does the exercise science concentration require an internship or field hours, or only the capstone seminar and EXS 455?
• Which certifications does the page mean, and has EOU started the CAAHEP or CASCE process for this degree?
