Oregon State University Online Kinesiology (B.S.), Ecampus

Oregon State's online B.S. in Kinesiology is a full four-year science degree from a public research university, priced flat at $409 per quarter credit with no out-of-state surcharge. It's heavy on exercise science: exercise physiology, biomechanics, three lab courses and a year of chemistry. The catch is credentials. Its pages name no programmatic accreditor, and the ACSM and NSCA rules coming in 2027 and 2030 depend on one.

Oregon State University is a public land-grant research university in Corvallis, Oregon. Its Ecampus division delivers this bachelor's through the College of Health and the School of Exercise, Sport, and Health Sciences. The same major is also offered in Corvallis and at OSU-Cascades.

The Ecampus page lists the skills you'll build: motor skills development, biomechanics, adapted physical activity, exercise physiology, sport and physical activity, and exercise psychology. There are four start terms a year. You can also apply for an online honors option that adds a thesis and research with faculty.

Oregon State runs on a quarter system with four start terms a year. You'll finish a 3-credit experiential learning requirement with the program's experiential learning coordinator, who works with you one-on-one to find an internship, practicum or project. Up to 9 experiential credits can count toward the 24 credits of KIN Beyond the Core.

The degree includes at least three lab courses, and the pages say nothing about how they're delivered online, so ask before you enroll. Kinesiology students can't use satisfactory or unsatisfactory grading on required courses, and you get two attempts at each requirement.

Who It Fits

• You're changing careers or finishing a degree, and you want a bachelor's from a public university with one flat rate. Nonresidents pay the same $409 a credit as Oregonians.
• You train or coach people already. Lab courses in resistance training program design, group fitness, fitness assessment and exercise physiology methods turn your experience into coursework.
• You have transfer credits. OSU reviews prior credits for articulation and only requires 45 of your last 75 credits to be taken at Oregon State.

Who Should Skip It

• Skip it if you're aiming for physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, nursing, physician assistant or medical school. Ecampus says the program isn't designed for those paths, and the pre-therapy option listed in the catalog is not one of the online choices.
• Skip it if you need a CAAHEP- or CASCE-accredited degree today. The Ecampus and College of Health pages don't name an accreditor.
• Skip it if chemistry worries you. The major requires a three-course general chemistry sequence and a full anatomy and physiology series.

The kinesiology core is 38 credits: Introduction to Kinesiology, Introduction to Careers, Sociocultural Dimensions of Physical Activity, Physical Activity: All Ability, Anatomical Kinesiology, Foundations of Sport and Exercise Psychology, Get Hired in Kinesiology, Motor Learning and Skill Acquisition, Biomechanics of Human Movement, Exercise Physiology, Power and Privilege in Sport, and Analysis of Critical Issues in Kinesiology.

Supporting science adds 33 credits: an anatomy and physiology series, 15 credits of general chemistry, and NUTR 240 Human Nutrition.

Then 24 credits of KIN Beyond the Core: at least three lab courses from a list that includes KIN 325 Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription, KIN 394 Resistance Training Program Design and KIN 474 Exercise Physiology Lab Methods, plus 3 experiential credits and electives such as KIN 360 Injury Management. Core education and electives fill the remaining 82 to 91 credits.

Ecampus charges $409 per credit for this degree in 2026-27, and that already includes a $15 per-credit distance education fee. It doesn't cover course materials or associated fees. There's a $65 application fee and a one-time $450 matriculation fee. These are quarter credits, so 180 of them equal about 120 semester credits. In semester terms you're paying $613.50.

Starting with no transfer credit, 180 credits comes to $73,620 in tuition, or $74,135 with the two fees. If 90 credits transfer, the remaining 90 come to $36,810, or $37,325 with fees. Your real number depends on the credit review after admission.

Oregon State is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. The College of Health page calls the program an accredited exercise science program and says it helps you prepare for certifications and advanced study, including ACSM and NSCA. It names no programmatic accreditor, and our lists don't match the program to CAAHEP or CASCE.

That matters. ACSM exercise physiologist candidates need a bachelor's in exercise science, exercise physiology or kinesiology today, but from August 15, 2027 they must graduate from a CAAHEP-accredited program or one that has started the process. The CSCS rule from January 1, 2030 requires a CASCE-accredited bachelor's. Personal trainer exams need no degree.

• Accreditation isn't spelled out. Pages mention accreditation without naming a body, and two upcoming credential rules turn on exactly that.
• The pages point different directions. The College of Health page pitches graduate study in physical therapy and athletic training, while Ecampus says the online program isn't designed for allied health careers.
• The price adds up over 180 credits. Materials, lab fees and the $515 in application and matriculation fees sit on top of $73,620 in tuition.
• The rules are strict. Each required course allows two attempts, and required courses can't be taken satisfactory/unsatisfactory.

• Which accrediting body covers this program, and has it filed a formal inquiry or Request for Accreditation Services with CAAHEP or applied to CASCE?
• How are the required lab courses delivered online, and do any need in-person sessions, equipment or a local partner site?
• How do prior credits apply, and can I get a transfer evaluation before I pay the matriculation fee?
• Which of the listed KIN courses run every term on Ecampus, and how many can I take at once?
