Logan University Online Master of Science in Sports Science & Rehabilitation (MSSSR)

Logan's online master's in sports science and rehabilitation is a two-in-one degree. You choose Exercise Physiology (36 credits) or Sports Rehabilitation (33 or 34), study online, and finish with a 90-hour internship at a site you find yourself. Tuition is $700 per credit, so the exercise physiology route costs $25,200.

It isn't an athletic training degree, and it isn't CAAHEP-accredited, which matters for ACSM certification after August 15, 2027.

Logan University is a private nonprofit health sciences school in Chesterfield, Missouri, best known for its Doctor of Chiropractic program. This master's sits in its College of Health Sciences.

Both concentrations share a 21-credit core, then split. Exercise Physiology is about testing people and writing exercise prescriptions for healthy clients and people whose medical conditions are controlled. Sports Rehabilitation is about injury recovery, including return-to-activity progressions.

Admission takes a bachelor's degree from a recognized institution, a 2.5 GPA, a resume and transcripts. You also need six credits in physics, kinesiology, exercise science, biomechanics or statistics, plus six in biological science, all with a C or higher. No GRE is required, and you can be admitted provisionally if you're missing prerequisites.

Coursework is online, and Logan calls the format accelerated within each 15-week trimester, with a short break between sessions. There are three starts a year, and the next is January 11, 2027. Logan says it takes one year at 12 credits per trimester, or two years part-time.

The internship comes in your final trimester: 90 hours over 7 weeks, or about 13 hours a week. Your supervisor must be a licensed healthcare provider or hold professional certifications in health, wellness or rehabilitation. Logan says its interns have worked in 38 states, including 155 clinics and performance centers, 63 universities and colleges, and 7 hospitals.

Who It Fits

• Chiropractors and Doctor of Chiropractic students. The Sports Rehabilitation route, with an optional 1-credit Sports Emergency Care Lab on campus, gives eligibility for the Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician exam and the International Certificate in Sports Chiropractic.
• Career changers with any bachelor's degree who want supervised, real-world hours. The internship puts you under a clinical or certified exercise physiologist, and you can do it in a hospital, a cardiac rehabilitation unit or a private practice.
• Personal trainers and coaches who want injury and rehabilitation coursework. Two courses cover upper and lower extremity rehabilitation, and another looks at advanced rehabilitation.

Who Should Skip It

• Anyone who wants to become a certified athletic trainer. Logan says plainly that this master's doesn't prepare you for that credential.
• Anyone counting on ACSM certification after August 15, 2027. ACSM is the American College of Sports Medicine, and by then its exercise physiologist candidates must graduate from a CAAHEP-accredited program. CAAHEP is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, and Logan isn't on our match.
• Anyone who wants a school to place them in an internship. Logan says students find their own site, so browse online masters in clinical exercise physiology for programs with placement help.

The core is seven 3-credit courses: STRC 500 Human Anatomy & Physiology, STRC 550 Biomechanics, STRC 510 Psychology of Sport and Exercise, STRC 520 Sports Nutrition, MSSR 515 Exercise/Cardiorespiratory Physiology, MSSR 560 Sports Emergency Care and MSSR 570 Principles of Injury Rehabilitation.

Exercise Physiology adds MSSR 600 Clinical Exercise Physiology, MSSR 620 Exercise Testing, MSSR 630 Exercise Prescription, MSSR 670 Exercise Prescription for Special Populations and the 3-credit MSSR 695 internship.

Sports Rehabilitation adds MSSR 640 Active & Passive Upper Extremity Rehabilitation, MSSR 650 Active & Passive Lower Extremity Rehabilitation, MSSR 680 Advanced Rehabilitation and the 3-credit MSSR 690 Clinical Rehabilitation Internship. Logan's program page doesn't show a price. Its 2026-2027 tuition page does, and it says the sports science and rehabilitation master's shares the same tuition and fees as three other master's programs. The rate is $700 per credit.

That's $25,200 for the 36-credit Exercise Physiology route, and $23,100 to $23,800 for Sports Rehabilitation at 33 or 34 credits. Logan adds a $50 activity fee each trimester. It also estimates $450 per trimester for books and supplies, though it doesn't bill that. Logan says these amounts are estimates and that the Finance Office confirms official figures.

Logan is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a regional accreditor. The program has no programmatic accreditation listed.

Logan says the Exercise Physiology concentration prepares you for the ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist exam. ACSM's published eligibility asks for a bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology or kinesiology, and Logan admits any bachelor's, so confirm with ACSM which degree counts. The ACSM clinical exercise physiologist route with a master's needs 600 hours of clinical experience, and this internship is 90.

Logan also says you'd be prepared in coursework for NSCA's Certified Special Populations Specialist, though you need extra hours beyond the internship.

• You find your own internship site. That's real work if you're changing careers and don't know clinicians.
• The 90-hour internship falls far short of the 600 clinical hours ACSM asks for on its master's route to the clinical exercise physiologist credential.
• No CAAHEP accreditation appears in Logan's pages or on the CAAHEP list we checked, so the ACSM exam path after August 15, 2027 is uncertain.
• The program page says nothing about tuition. You only find $700 per credit on a separate page, and it's an estimate.
• Logan's federal graduation rate is 22 percent. That's a university-wide figure, not a program figure, but it's the only outcome number we have.
