Georgia Military College Online Associate of Science in Kinesiology

Georgia Military College's online A.S. in Kinesiology is a low-cost transfer degree, not a career credential. You spend 97 to 100 quarter hours on general education, anatomy and physiology, and a handful of kinesiology courses, at your own pace, and then move on to a bachelor's.

It makes sense if you're heading to a Georgia four-year school. It's a weaker choice if you want trainer certification courses, an internship, or the lowest price, since Georgia State's online associate pathway charges far less per credit.

Georgia Military College is a public two-year institution in Milledgeville, Georgia, founded in 1879. It runs a Corps of Cadets, satellite campuses around the state and an online division called GMC Online. The A.S. in Kinesiology is taught on campus, at satellites and fully online, and the school says it takes about two years.

The program page says the degree prepares you for bachelor's work in kinesiology or exercise science at most four-year schools. Kinesiology majors have to take BIO 123 or BIO 211 as their lab science, and that choice decides whether your total is 97 or 100 quarter hours.

GMC's catalog says its online courses are designed so you can work at your own pace, without mandatory discussion forums, and that online professors respond to questions and grade your work. The program page lists starts on October 13, 2026, January 6, 2027 and March 17, 2027, and registration closes the day before each one.

The school says you can do the degree fully online through GMC Online, or mix online, in-seat and remote courses at a campus. BIO 207 and BIO 208 list laboratory work, so ask how the dissection and histology labs run for online students. A former student quoted on the page planned to move on to a physical therapist assistant program.

Who It Fits

• You plan to finish a bachelor's at a Georgia school. The program page lists guaranteed-acceptance partners that include Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kennesaw State and Mercer.
• You want to study on your own schedule. GMC's catalog says online courses let you work at your own pace with no mandatory discussion forums, and three starts are listed between October and March.
• You live outside Georgia. Nobody pays an out-of-state premium, and the per-credit resource fee covers your textbooks, so your costs don't depend on your ZIP code.

Who Should Skip It

• Skip it if you want a credential you can use this year. The program page says graduates are prepared to become personal trainers or fitness instructors, but no certification courses are listed, and the bachelor's-level certifications need a four-year degree.
• Skip it if you need hands-on hours. No internship, practicum or capstone appears in the program.

The concentration is 32 quarter hours. BIO 207 and BIO 208, Human Anatomy & Physiology I and II, are 6 hours each and include lab work with dissection and histology. KIN 200 Introduction to Kinesiology covers motor behavior, biomechanics, physiology and careers. KIN 210 Structural Kinesiology studies the anatomy and physical principles behind movement, and it requires a C or better in BIO 207.

You then choose two 5-hour courses from three. KIN 220 Exercise Biochemistry covers metabolism and how exercise and nutrition change it, and it requires CHE 121. KIN 250 Strength and Conditioning teaches individual and sport-specific testing and program design. KIN 255 Essentials of Athletic Healthcare covers injury prevention, identification and rehabilitation.

The other 65 to 68 hours are the general education core, including the 3-hour LDR 101 leadership course every degree-seeking student takes.

Tuition is $169 per quarter credit hour, and a $23 course resource fee covers your textbooks, so you pay $192 an hour. In-state and out-of-state students pay the same, and special course fees can apply.

At 97 to 100 hours that's $18,624 to $19,200. GMC's program page instead says $8,280 a year for about two years, which is $16,560, and the tuition page says a typical 5-hour course costs about $935 when five hours at $192 is $960. Those figures don't match, so get an estimate in writing.

A quarter hour is two-thirds of a semester credit. Priced per semester credit, the $169 tuition works out to $253.50 before the resource fee.

GMC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. That's a regional accreditor, which helps when your credits move to a public university. The kinesiology program lists no programmatic accreditation.

The exercise science credentials start at the bachelor's level. The ACSM-EP, the American College of Sports Medicine's exercise physiologist certification, needs a bachelor's degree, and from August 15, 2027 that degree must come from a CAAHEP-accredited program or one that has started the process.

The Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) needs a bachelor's, and from January 1, 2030, one from a CASCE-accredited program. Georgia State's B.S. in Exercise Science is CAAHEP-accredited.

• The price figures on GMC's own pages disagree: $8,280 a year, about $935 a course, and $192 an hour all point to different totals.
• This is a transfer degree, so its value depends on what your next school accepts. Georgia State's B.S. in Exercise Science asks for a separate major application and a C- or better in two prerequisite courses, which a guaranteed-acceptance promise may not cover.
• Georgia State's exercise science bachelor's is an Atlanta campus program, not an online one, and it ends with a semester-long internship.
• GMC's federal graduation rate is 38 percent. It covers the whole college, not this program, but it's the only outcome figure we have.
